‘Til it Thunders
BY Linda Moss
MEDIUM Mixed media (acrylic/fabric)
My idea for this piece was built around an old expression that my granny used to use. We would catch turtles on her farm, and she’d tell us that if one bit us then it wouldn’t let go until it thundered. She was a folk artist in her own rite, and crafted many quilts in her time, so I added calico fabric into this piece as a nod to her practice. One day I was thinking about her (she passed on many years ago) and the picture of the singing turtle popped into my mind. So I decided to paint it.
This piece veers a little more towards realism than much of my former more abstract works, yet still incorporates many similar material elements that characterize earlier pieces.”
