William Joyce’s New Short Film, “Mr. Spam Gets a New Hat”

 

WHAT: Shreveport Regional Arts Council opens three exhibitions on the same

Friday evening, August 27, at artspace at 708

Texas St. in downtown Shreveport.

·         Featured: Byron May's 3-D "Abstractions on Steel" come to life in artspace Mainspace;

·         Academy Award-Winning filmmaker, writer, and illustrator William Joyce tells the story of making his newest short film, "Mr. Spam Gets A New Hat," upstairs in Coolspace;

·         Critical Mass 8 Literary Best of Show artist Mawiyah Bomani debuts "Thick Air: Rituals and Revolution" on the mezzanine.

·          BYRON MAY, transfers an unassembled mixture of elements he sees in his head onto stainless steel sheets using a palette knife and a proprietary, soy-based paint he invented in vibrant, reds, blues, and yellows to create bold three-dimensional images that literally lift from the surface of hid canvas of steel.  Find Full Press Release Here.

·         Academy-Award-Winning filmmaker, writer and illustrator William Joyce tells the story of making his newest short film, “Mr. Spam Gets a New Hat,” from a gumbo-stained Cush’s Grocery paper tablecloth sketch, to a world-wide collaboration with DNEG Feature Animation using a revolutionary style of technology.

·         Critical Mass 8 Best of Show Literary Artist Mawiyah Bomani, described as an author who “cares to tackle hard topics of race and identity, valiantly and often brilliantly,” presents Thick Air: Rituals and Revolution with deep compassion, empathy, and emotional honesty.

WHEN: Opening Friday, August 27, 2021, with a FREE reception 5:30 to 9:00 p.m.

WHERE: At artspace at 708 Texas St. in downtown Shreveport

Due to the Pandemic, artspace and Shreveport Regional Arts Council have decided to put these rules into effect for these Exhibition Openings.
1. All attendees (Ages 13+) must provide proof of Covid 19 Vaccination or a Negative Covid Test that is no older than August 24.
2. All attendees must wear a face mask. This includes children.
3. Artspace will be encouraging safe spacing.
