Carnival! was inspired by a Mardis Gras “selfie” of my niece. The intent, to capture her personality and integrate the international spirit of celebration expressed through Mardis Gras and Carnival. As I lost myself in the painting, her youthful spirit and animal-loving nature began to inform the work subconsciously - the cat eyes defining the human animal, the transparency of her skin alluding to our spiritual nature and temporal existence.
