Shreveport Regional Arts Council is excited to offer a summer filled with sound featuring the James Burton Art of the Guitar Exhibition!  Our summer Arts in Education programming has something for everyone to include weekly arts activities, summer camps and even date nights!  Programming includes:


CELEBRATING THE ART OF MUSIC, an Arts in Education Program in conjunction with “THE ART OF THE GUITAR” EXHIBITION

Each week Mini-Music makers will join artists at artspace to make instruments and interactive art that will be used in the story. There will be a different theme each week. Mini-music makers can participate in the scavenger hunt exhibit for a fun James Burton prize to be given at the end of the week. 
Cost is $10 per child in advance /$12 day of  (No charge for accompanying adults).

STOP MO! ANIMATE STEAM CAMP:  ANIMATING THE ART OF SOUND, an Arts in Education Program in conjunction with “THE ART OF THE GUITAR” Exhibition

9:00 A.M. TO 3:00 P.M.
rising 6TH – 12TH GRADERS
ARTSPACE   -   708 TEXAS STREET, SHREVEPORT, LA

SESSION I:   JUNE 12-16  - Scary Stop Mo!  Campers will use fantastic scary stories from authors like Edgar Allen Poe and Alvin Schwartz from the popular teen series, Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark, to animate their short!  Lauren will be the lead instructor.

SESSION II:  JULY 10-14 - Music Video Stop Mo!  Can Groot line dance,  whip or nae nae?  Campers will use popular film character figures to animate in their own music video fit for the MTV Video Music Awards!

SESSION III:  JULY 24-28, 2017 - Riff the Fairy Tale Stop Mo!  What if Humpty Dumpty didn’t have a great fall?  Who doesn’t like a new twist on a well-known tale?  Campers will re-imagine well known fairy-tales and make new classic tales in animation!

Each camp is a fun, interactive hands-on STEAM Camp taught by professional animators, Lauren Brown and/or Kevin Langley. In this week-long camp, participants will learn about 3 different kinds of Stop Motion Animation methods and choose one to make a 2 minute short animated movie illustrating the art of sound.  Lunch is not included, or you can purchase your lunch at Parish Taceaux next door!  Campers will receive a camp t-shirt.
Fee is $250.


DoD STARBASE is a national science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) program in over 60 locations throughout the U.S.

Since 1999, tens of thousands of fifth-graders and hundreds of middle and high school students in our community have experienced hands-on STEM investigations and projects, leading edge technology and innovative instructional methods through STARBASE Louisiana at Barksdale Air Force Base. A fun, interactive hands-on STEAM Camp taught by STARBASE of Louisiana staff and Professional Artists.  STARBASE is a premier Department of Defense STEM program sponsored by the 307th Bomb Wing of the Air Force Reserve Command at Barksdale Air Force Base.  STARBASE STEAM Campers will explore and learn the art of sound.  Campers will create working instruments using hand tools, make a sound mural that will be exhibited in artspace and learn about sound engineering.    They will work with Scientists, Visual and Performing Artists!  Campers will work in groups of four and receive a camp T-shirt.   Lunch is INCLUDED, or you can purchase your lunch at Parish Taceaux next door!
