How I Do It - Artist Demonstrations

Thursday, March 29 at 6 PM - 8 PM

From the walls of Critical MASS 6 come an artist demonstration night called "How I Do It". Dallas Artist Lesli Marshall hung the exhibition last month and picked out several artists she felt deserved a time to showcase their process to the public.

On Thursday March 29, join artspace in finding out how they did it!
Artists, Jason Pliler (photography), Michael Gable (wood carving), Kimberly Gable (wood burning), James Marks (sculpture), Kathryn Usher (mixed media) will do multiple 20 minute demonstrations of their skills.

Michael Gable will demonstrate the process of turning a block of wood into a hollow form/bowl using a wood lathe, grinder and a variety of tools.

Jason Pliler will show how to use basket reed and tissue paper to create unique forms and surfaces for inks and water colors.

Following in her father's (Michael Gable) footsteps, Kimberly Gable will be demonstrating her burning technique she uses to etch images into wood.

Kathryn will demonstrate what it took to wrestle together “Deer Stand Pull Toy” her award winning piece in Critical Mass Six. With yards and yards of fabric, bits of plastic and a hose or two. Usher will show her process of turning an ordinary wooden household ladder into a fantastical mix of a child’s pull toy and a hunter’s deer stand.

You’ve seen James Mark's wire figures all over Shreveport. Watch as James demonstrates the twisting, weaving, and wrapping of wire. James will demonstrate the dynamics of his iconic sculptures and share his adventures of “getting up” on the streets.

Watch as these artists create works live in front of you!
Entry is $15/person.
