Share your special glow with Zombie Showgirls, double down with our specialty cocktail at the bar, and then win big at our buffet table! Extended exposure may leave you with a Hunk-a Hunk-a Burning Love at our Elvis Wedding Chapel. A BETTER LIFE FOR ALL - coolspace
WE MAKE MILLIONS OF GOOD TIMES - coolspace
Celebrate the multicultural neighborhoods of Northwest Louisiana in a two-part exhibition at artspace and workshop at Central ARTSTATION.
A Better Life For All: Traditional Arts of Louisiana’s Immigrant Communities premieres as a traveling exhibit from the Louisiana State Museum and the Louisiana Division of the Arts Folklife Program. The exhibit explores the traditional arts and practices of immigrant cultural communities in the southeastern, central, and northern regions of the state through documentation of dance, music, crafts, traditional foods and celebrations or rituals that people bring to a new home. A Better Life For All features Offrendas by Conchita Iglesias McElwee.
The exhibit is based on research conducted from 2005 until 2011 for the New Populations Project. Curated by folklorist Laura Marcus Green with assistance from Folklife Program and State Museum staff, the exhibit features music, dance, foodways, and ritual traditions from 11 immigrant cultures throughout the state, including Asian Indian, Bosnian, Chinese, Garifuna, Greek, Laotian, Mexican, Palestinian, Turkish, Thai, and Vietnamese communities. Four Quick Readers (QRs) link to audio and video online. An expanded version of the exhibit is online along with an exhibitor’s kit that includes suggestions for public programming to augment the exhibit and activities for students.
We Make Millions of Good Times: Inspiration from Angels features the art work of residents of Holy Angels, a residential and training campus for individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities. The Holy Angels’ Visual Arts program provides an outlet for creative expression and therapy. In the program have the opportunity to create images that reflect the world as they view and experience it. These works expose creation at its purest state- reinvented in every phase by the impulse driven artist. By sharing the work they proudly create, Holy Angels has the opportunity to establish artists, share encouraging missions, and challenge and transform assumptions about disability.
