The Fantastic Mr. Fox has received rave reviews from all over the country, as people of all ages have packed out shows since it opened on September 24th.  With 10 shows per week for the past eleven weeks, there just hasn’t been enough space for audience demand from as far away as Dallas, Little Rock, and New Orleans.  The show has been extended through December 31st to accommodate the overwhelming success!

See it before it’s too late!!

Pat shares, “My paintings largely happen:  their underpinnings unannounced until their emergence, but sufficiently potent once at play in design that they leave me a sense that I am not in charge so much as along for the ride.  Make an initial mark and presto, outside the window of awareness an image forms with its director in tow. Clearly these directors, like those of dreams, reflect my conscious and unconscious preoccupations, preferences and sensitizations and clearly there is linkage and influence from all my days and doodles gone before.  I am preseeded and sensitized and it all fulminates as fertile vapor within, when mouth or mind is opened and uncensored.  I just follow for the fun trusting the turn and stop signals encountered like a driver using road signs in an unfamiliar place.  There is learning in the process though it goes unquantitated while having later its inevitable say.  I stop when the signs compel a knowing.  There will always be more paint and paper and new instruction even if initially tentative and vaporous.

I like to share my art in the same way I want my friends to like and know our dogs; in the same way we exclaim out loud without definable purpose at something that surprises or intrigues unexpectedly.  It is a now thing; very basic and innate: a child showing a found rock to the first person available.

FANTASTIC MR. FOX  currently showing at artspace and the survival story of the FOX’s family has inspired us  to think of unique opportunities to engage the public in new experiences.

Needle Felting Workshop for Beginners/All Ages
with textile artist – KAREN JOHNSON
 from 9 am to Noon

The public is invited to experience a “beginners” needle felting workshop taught by local textile artist Karen Johnson.  For $25, registrants will be provided with instruction on needle felting and will make two projects – a heart necklace and a flower pin.  All materials are included.

CHILDREN’S VINTAGE LINEN TRUNK SHOW
with clothing designer – LENORA THOMAS
from 10 am to 2 pm

Lenora Thomas designs new children’s dresses from vintage linens bringing old and new together in a historic yet fashionable combination that has wide appeal, including her selection as the 2011 winner of the Louisiana Award of Merit at this summer’s Ruston Peach Festival.  Each dress includes a brief history of the fabrics used to make the dress.  Lenora uses quilt tops, pillowcases, tea towels, napkins and more to create this unique look that brings a flood of memories to a lot of women when they look at each piece.  For a look at some of her work go to http://www.etsy.com/people/VintageLinenClothing.

Prices will range from $35 – $60 and sizes are 3 months to size 8/9.

Artists will need to provide their own art supplies, but easels and tables will be provided as available.   A monitor will be on hand to guide the sessions, but there is no direct instruction given.
